Cool Hardware Things: Flipper Zero

This week, I got my hands on a Flipper Zero, which I borrowed from a friend. I got this because while brainstorming final project ideas with my partner Amy for my microprocessors class, we decided to try to make an RFID scanner.

The Flipper Zero is really cool! We got it for the purposes for debugging RFID signals, but it has a lot of really interesting use cases and things embedded inside. It’s advertised as a “multi-tool for geeks” and as “your cyber buddy”. A lot of my friends in the Cybersecurity space have one, because it opens up a lot of room for control in manipulatng digital signals like wifi, bluetooth and other radio signals.

What’s really exciting to me is how the Flipper Zero brings to life a lot of the concepts I’ve been learning in my microprocessors class. It’s basically just a microcontroller connected to a bunch of peripherals and sensors. Seeing the device in action has felt quite magical, and I think it’s a great source of inspiration and example for what I can do with embedded hardware.
